Description:
Abstract: Data is stored and maintained as a feature data layer in SDE.
Purpose:
To provide a data layer for various mapping and analytical needs for use with other MOA GIS data sets.
Supplemental_Information:
In 1985 the Rails layer originated as a Department of Public Works (DPW) coverage serving the needs of surveyors. At this time DPW made a major change in their data capturing methods where the manual method of using scribes was stopped and the use of computers using various software applications was initiated. The original information was captured from 1" = 100' scale survey plats recorded on the DPW scribe films. In 1990 DPW changed their software application from Synercom Informap to ESRI's ArcInfo. In 1998 Rails went through minor changes and a name change from Rails to Railroad before it was placed into a new library structure. Railroad contains a lot of additional centerlines for tracks that might not be needed for display. The tracks have been grouped into two categories - main and secondary. In November 2006, the tracks were realigned based on the 2006 aerial imagery. The technique used was heads up digitizing.
